Jonathan Foland has over 10 years of experience in higher education, with experience in undergraduate instruction and mentorship, university administration, research, and career and professional development. Jonathan gained much of this experience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where Jonathan balanced two careers: one as an educator committed to student development, and one as a graduate student in the field of communication. Included on this website are a brief version of Jonathan’s résumé and a portfolio of projects.
Jonathan holds dual Bachelor’s degrees (Communication and English) from the University of Kentucky, and a Master’s degree (Communication Studies) from UNC-Chapel Hill. Between 2011 and 2017, Jonathan pursued a PhD in Communication from UNC-Chapel Hill, successfully completing all coursework requirements and comprehensive exams before deciding to discontinue this professional path.
Beginning in 2015, Jonathan turned to career and professional development for graduate students and provided program support for UNC-Chapel Hill’s University Career Services. With University Career Services, Jonathan conducted workshops, led working groups, and met with graduate students to assist them with career exploration. Jonathan earned certification as a professional life coach through Coach Training Alliance in order to continue supporting students with academic and career exploration.
Currently, Jonathan performs administrative, technical, and research support for UNC-Chapel Hill’s Office of Research Development and provides coaching services on a private basis.
